Charlie's Place Board honors Bob Beck with portrait

Board members Barbara Dolce and Dennis Dolce hold the painting of
Bob Beck presented to him on Dec 29 by the Board of Directors.
Dec 29, 2007 - Celebrating Mr. R.N. "Bob" Beck's 42 years of
service on the Charlie's Place
Board of Directors, Board President
Dennis Dolce and Executive Board member Barbara Dolce presented him
with a painted portrait on Dec 29. The event was attended by clients of
Charlie's Place, members of Mr. Beck's family
and other friends of Charlie's Place, including Board and staff
members.
Bob Beck worked with Charlie Acklen to help alcoholics recover long
before Charlie's Place was ever conceived. He has been a loyal
friend to Charlie's Place over the years, and hardly
ever
misses a Sunday speaker meeting there as he loves to be around the
clients. Serving continuously on the Board for 42 years, he has been
instrumental in guiding Charlie's Place through some difficult times
and has been an advocate of adding bed space in order to treat more
clients. He has been an example of what following a 12-step recovery
program can do for an addict and has passed along many of the things
he has learned through his decades of recovery to thousands of
people struggling with addiction.
Mr. Beck was the last surviving member of the original group that
started Charlie’s Place. More than 10 years ago the
Beck House at Charlie's Place was
named in his honor. He passed away on February 22, 2008. Mr. Beck
will be sorely missed by the board, staff and clients as we are so
fortunate to have been blessed with his presence over the years. |

Operation Rudolph helps pay for Christmas food and gifts
Dec 2007 -
Charlie's Place hosted an annual Christmas Party
in December for
its clients in treatment and the recovering women and their children living at
Casa de Familias by providing food and gifts from Santa.
Donations to "Operation Rudolph" help pay for the party and gifts.
"Thanks to our staff and supporters,
Operation Rudolph was a wonderful success this year," said
Amy Granberry, Director of Organizational Development at
Charlie's Place. Through
South Shore Christian Church’s
continued generosity, Charlie's Place was able to provide Christmas
gifts to more than 90 children. Santa Claus was a big hit, with
gifts for all the children and clients attending the event. More
than 200 people ate dinner together, and the room was packed to
capacity for a very moving candlelight gratitude meeting afterwards.
"I would like to extend a special thank you to those who have
continued to support this special event and to those staff who work
so hard to put it all together — from the planning and preparation
to those who gave of their time to play 'elves,' we are truly
blessed by your service," Granberry said.
