The Stence House serves 16 male clients per day who are participating in Intensive and Supportive
Residential Services.
Clients residing in this house are offered on a daily basis group and individual counseling, chemical dependency education classes and life skills classes.
The Stence House is named for retired Commander Hank Stence who was also a founding member of Charlie’s Place. Hank passed away in March 2002
after dedicating his life to service at Charlie’s Place for 37 years. Hank loved to tell stories about the “early days” and was so proud of what
had been accomplished over the 37 years he witnessed. His quiet, gentle nature and wonderful sense of humor often hid an iron will all of which are
greatly missed. When talking about clients, Hank would often say “they didn’t get here singing in the church choir, but we love them anyway.”
Along with Mr. Beck, Mr. Cannon and Charlie Acklen, Hank believed that everyone who entered the doors deserved hope, compassion and dignity;
they all treated each person they met accordingly and taught us to do the same.
